ASAGBA OF ASABA RESTORES POPULAR BONSAC SETTLEMENT TO ITS ORIGINAL NAME, AJAJI LAYOUT
The Asagba, who announced the renaming during a familiarization visit to the former Bonsac and Oduke axis of his kingdom, said the development would be communicated to the Oshimili South Local Government for necessary actions.
Earlier on arrival, the Bonsac and Oduke communities respectfully welcomed HRM Asagba Azinge, and his entourage including, Chief Patrick Ukah, DG Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Palace Chiefs and other Chiefs within Asaba Kingdom on the historic maiden visit to these satellite areas in his domain which according to Ogbueshi Adim Onochie, Anya Asagba (Palace liaison officer) in Bonsaac Community, is of course the first of it's kind.
Ogbueshi Dada Okolo, Anya Asagba (Palace liaison officer) Oduke Community presented kolanuts and drinks, a gigantic live cow to welcome His Royal Majesty on behalf of Bonsac and Oduke communities and also donated the sun of #2,000,000 only to the building of the Permanent Asagba Palace as a symbol of their respect, gratitude and loyalty to the throne.
Dr Chukwuemeka Oforgu, the Secretary of the renamed Bonsac satellite settlement, thanked the Asagba for the visit, which he said was the first of its kind, describing him as the best fitted for the exalted throne of Asaba at this time in history.
He then read out the joint address, which he presented it to Nna Agu, noting that both communities have a population of over One hundred thousand inhabitants and despite their ever increasing population, the community lacks basic socio-economic infrastructures and amenities to support their existence as part of the Capital territory which are listed below:
1. Deplorable and inaccessible road networks in the communities at all seasons of the year.
2. No Government health institutions (Primary health care center, Maternity, Dispensary etc).
3. No Government Public Primary and Secondary Schools.
4. No Standard Commodity market.
5. No Police Posts/Station to attend to crime and related offences .
6. No Judicial Institutions within the communities for quick dispensation of justice.
The Asagba then renamed the Bonsaac Community to Ajaji Layout, Asaba, citing his status as the prescribed authority and Asagba of Asaba thus: "Today, 30th January 2025, By the powers conferred on me as the prescribed authority and the Asagba of Asaba, I hereby rename Bonsac as AJAJI LAYOUT"
He also officially announced the appointment of Ogbueshi Adim Onochie and Ogbueshi Dada Okolo to become Anya Asagba (Palace Liaison Officers) and directed them to display the sign post: "THIS IS AJAJI LAYOUT" notices at all community entrances within the next one week in both communities, and while adding that all documents bearing the name Bonsac remained valid, urged residents to respect and obey the newly appointed Palace liaison officers and the traditions of Ahaba knowing fully well that the land has blessed them so much.
Those who know the modern history of Asaba will recall that Bonsaac is just a popular bakery located in the Ajaji Layout quarters in the region. The bakery's name was widely known in the area that everyone adopted it, for landmark and commuter service convenience.
The story also has it that the popular Bonsaac road is called FEAR GOD STREET, which was overshadowed and even subsequently forgotten with the presence and popularity of the bakery.
Asagba Azinge addressed the communities' concerns about governmental developments, assuring them that Chief Patrick Ukah's presence during his visit indicates the state government's awareness of their needs and while cautioning that some structures may need to be demolished to pave the way for development projects, charged residents to support the government and Asaba Kingdom in attracting positive change.
To address security concerns, Asagba Azinge pledged to contact the Commissioner of Police to establish a police post in the community. He also suggested collaboration between the Anya Asagba in Ajaji Layout and Ogbueshi Nnamdi Chukwuedo, Asaba Vigilante Chairman, to enhance security measures.
The Monarch charged residents of Ajaji Layout and Oduke satellite towns to be law abiding, respect the culture and traditions of the land, be loyal to constituted authorities, and support the government of the day.
He acknowledge the challenges of dearth of social amenities and the absence of a Police post in the area and assured residents that he would open up discussions with the relevant authorities to attract development to the satellite towns.
