GEJ 2027: Presidency Tells Jerry Gana Former President Is Welcome To Contest, But Nigerians'll Remember Dismal Record In Office

Image
STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE FORMER PRESIDENT JONATHAN IS WELCOME TO THE RACE. NIGERIANS WILL REMEMBER HIS DISMAL RECORD IN OFFICE As we begin the march towards the 2027 elections prematurely foisted on the nation by the desperation of the opposition ganging up against President Bola Tinubu despite his glaring giant economic strides, we are once again regaled with a cacophony of voices, most of them full of sound and fury, signifying nothing, to paraphrase inimitable Williams Shakespeare in one of his classic works, Macbeth.    One recent statement that stands out in its absurdity is Professor Jerry Gana’s. The former Minister of Information and National Orientation, moving to draft former President Goodluck Jonathan into the 2007 presidential race, affirmed that the former president would contest the coming election on the platform of the discredited People's Democratic Party (PDP), which bequeathed a legacy of economic ruins, after 16 years of bad governance.   Gana even de...

In his touching tribute, Oromoni reflected on the pain of her sudden departure and the enduring impact she had on him and their children. “Words cannot fully describe the anguish your departure has caused the Children and I. The vacuum is indescribable,” he wrote, noting that the family continues to celebrate her life on her heavenly birthdays. He praised Rosemary for her humility, generosity, discipline, and focus, saying her true wealth was the love, joy, serenity, and knowledge of God that she freely shared with everyone around her. “My confidant, you made life so beautiful and easy with the way you chose compassion when bitterness would have easily taken hold of you, demonstrating that genuine strength rare among m...

LT. COLONEL WALTER ADIM AFAM JIBUNOH (RTD): A Tribute to My Inspirer - By Godfrey C. Osakwe

Image
A Tribute to My Inspirer   Death is always a painful reminder of the fleeting nature of life on earth and of how quickly even the brightest lights can fade. It was an emotional and humbling moment for me as I watched, with helpless tears, the body of my dear uncle, Diokpa Lieutenant Colonel Walter Adim Afam Jibunoh (Rtd.), being lowered into the grave. This was not merely the passing of a beloved family member; it was the farewell to a man whose life ignited my lifelong passion for Public Relations. As Director of Army Public Relations, my uncle was a familiar name in the media for all the right reasons, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation between the Nigerian Army, the citizens of Nigeria, and the international community. As an impressionable young boy with an insatiable interest in current affairs, I eagerly read about him in the national dailies and listened to news bulletins on the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN). I was fascinated by the precision, tact, ...

Image
PRESS STATEMENT ADC To Tinubu: Seeking UN Security Council Seat While Failing to Secure Lives at Home is Absurd * Party Queries President’s No-show at NDA Graduation Again The ADC has criticised President Tinubu’s administration for seeking a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, even as bandits ravaged the country, killing Nigerians at will while the government appears either unperturbed or incapable of securing the lives of its citizens. The party says Nigeria cannot ask for expanded global responsibilities while persistently failing to meet its most fundamental obligation of protecting lives and property at home. In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC also queries President Tinubu’s absence at the passing-out parade and Presidential Commissioning of officers of the Nigerian Army at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna on Saturday. The party recalls that, just like in 2024, the Commander-in-Chief misplaced ...

CRITICS MISS THE POINT: EBIE’S IMPACT IN IKA IS SYSTEMIC, NOT COSMETIC - By Dominion Steve Buzugbe

Image
Amidst Barr. Chiedu Ebie’s visible signatures of development across the Niger Delta as Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), a few voices have continued to claim that his presence is not being felt in his immediate constituency, Ika South and Ika North East Local Government Areas. But such claims, according to close observers, are not only unfair but also a deliberate misunderstanding of what true leadership and development mean. Those who insist they have not felt Ebie’s impact often base their argument on the absence of cash empowerment programs. Yet, this narrow expectation overlooks the fact that real development cannot and should not be reduced to handouts of ₦100,000 or ₦1 million that disappear in weeks and leave the people trapped in the same broken system. Ebie’s leadership is intentionally different. His priority is not tokenism but tackling systemic failures that have for years denied the people of Ika and the Niger Delta the opportunity to thrive. By fi...

Mr. Macdonald Eluma, a member of GCON Media, a Social and Political Pressure Group, made the call recently during a focused group discussion in Asaba, the Delta State capital.  According to him, it is only by aligning with Ebie's vision and mission in politics that the Ika nation can enjoy enduring but quantum political gains and socio-economic and infrastructural development.
