Queue Behind Ebie for Enduring Political Gains, Eluma Urges Ika Nation; Says NDDC Chairman Has Proven That He Can Be Trusted

The people of Ika Federal Constituency in Delta State have been called upon to unite and queue behind the leadership of their illustrious son and Chairman, Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chiedu Ebie. Ebie who is also the Co-convener of Delta Unity Group (DUG), is seen by many in the Federal Constituency as a rallying figure and political leader.

Mr. Macdonald Eluma, a member of GCON Media, a Social and Political Pressure Group, made the call recently during a focused group discussion in Asaba, the Delta State capital. 

According to him, it is only by aligning with Ebie's vision and mission in politics that the Ika nation can enjoy enduring but quantum political gains and socio-economic and infrastructural development.

Eluma noted that Ebie has redefined public leadership and proven beyond reasonable doubt that not all politicians are deceptive, insisting that the NDDC boss remains a typical example of an honest personality in politics that can be trusted.  

Eluma described Ebie as epitome of humility who has consistently exhibited unwavering commitment to any given assignment and love for his people.

He said: “I have followed his leadership trajectory right from his days as Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Secretary to the State Government and now, Chairman, Governing Board of NDDC. He is not holding any elective position but he has brought more dividends of democracy to Ika Federal Constituency than our elected leaders.”

Speaking further, Eluma who has worked with him since 2015 stressed that the achievements of the NDDC Chairman in previous positions held were not only remarkable and towering but amplify him as a man with impeccable reputation that the Ika nation can entrust their political future, particularly as his leadership judgements are always sound and characterized by inclusivity.

Aside from the ongoing democratized infrastructural provisions in the Ika Federal Constituency attracted by him, Mr Eluma who is also the Special Assistant to the NDDC boss recalled that as a Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in the state, Ebie conducted the most transparent recruitment process in the state - the recruitment of 1,000 teachers.

Giving insight to how Ebie conducted error free and transparent recruitment, Eluma said: “He assembled credible technocrats who provided the needed benchmark that made it credible. Everything about the item generation, everything about resource persons for the process was handled professionally. The Professors and senior members of the academia who conducted the oral interview and microteaching practicum were persons of repute and integrity. Through the Computer Based Test (CBT), applicants got their scores instantly, which also foreclosed any attempt to alter the scores. An independent IT firm, Dragnet Solutions Limited, handled the CBT." This was bolstered by his team of technocrats.

This milestone was attested in a Report by the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), on the 2019 Merit-Based Teacher Recruitment into Delta State Education Service. The report was championed by Accountability Lab Nigeria and sponsored by The John D. and Catherine D. MacArthur Foundation and Luminate. The report was published on August 11, 2024. It revealed how the Delta State Government in 2019 achieved a record-breaking and, of course, the most transparent recruitment of 1,000 teachers, posted across secondary schools in the state.

Similarly, the State Government won a Federal Government award for digitizing the aforementioned recruitment exercise and it was received on behalf of the State by the then Chairman of the Delta State Civil Service Commission, Chief (Mrs) Nkem Okwuofu."

Eluma revealed that Ebie as Commissioner revived the hitherto abandoned Principal Cup in the state, a football tournament for all Secondary schools in the state. To make the tournament sustainable, Eluma said, Ebie creatively and proactively brought in the well-respected Zenith Bank as both partner and sponsor. Today, the football tournament has become a veritable platform for harnessing talent in the state. 

Other achievements as commissioner, he added, include: introduction of the Headmasters Cup Competition for primary schools; Teachers Award, Award of Academic Excellence in collaboration with Eroton Exploration and Production Company Ltd.; and created a sustainable benchmark for the appointment and recall of Chief Inspectors of Education - which is still upheld to date. The State Government was in the news during Ebie's tenure as Honourable Commissioner.

“He is the awaited political Messiah that the people of Agbor in particular, and Ika nation in general long desired and I urge all to queue behind as he is well experienced and blessed with the needed leadership qualities to take the people to the zenith of their political aspirations”, Eluma said.

He urged members of GCON Media to remain resolute in their resolve to preach Ebie’s message to every part of Ika nation and Delta State at large.

DELTA BANS CIVIL SERVANTS FROM WEARING BUSHY BEARDS, ARTIFICIAL HAIR, OTHERS; SETS DOWN OFFICIAL DRESS CODE

The Delta State Government has issued a new directive banning bushy beards, artificial braided or tainted hair, long eyelashes, fake nails, and other forms of what it calls “indecent appearance” among public servants. The ban was announced in a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service, which stated that all public servants must now appear in neat, professional, and modest attire that reflects their level in the civil service. According to the circular, male civil servants are no longer allowed to grow bushy beards or wear certain traditional caps such as the “Resource Control” or “Papas” caps. DELTA BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF LANDMARK ASABA WATERFRONT CITY
