GOVERNOR OBOREVWORI, FOCUSING ON LEGACY PROJECTS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

DELTA FRESH VISION has been studying the driving force behind Sheriff Oborevwori's legacy projects which are encapsulated in his M.O.R.E Agenda and we have come to the inescapable conclusion that he desires to make a difference in his style of infrastructural development programmes.

Legacy projects are significant initiatives, programmes or infrastructural developments that leave a lasting impact on a community, organization or region. These projects are often associated with leaders, organizations or administrations and are considered key achievements that define their tenure or influence.

Some of these projects address foundational issues or challenges, creating benefits well beyond the project completion. They also represent the vision, priorities and values of the administration. They are designed to be durable and beneficial to future generations.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has pledged infrastructural renewal and sustainable development in Delta State. He envisions that his administration will break new grounds in infrastructural development, inclusive economic growth and all encompassing human capital development.

Governor Oborevwori is determined to concentrate more on legacy projects that stand the test of time.

Below are some of the legacy projects on which Governor Oborevwori has decided to invest state resources:

SAPELE TOWNSHIP ROAD PROJECTS

For several years, the commercial city of Sapele had become almost desolate. The town had progressively lost its past glory as epitomized by the moribund Africa Timber and Plywood (AT&P), inoperative Sapele Port, and its erstwhile sprawling rubber business.

Governor Oborevwori has decided to breathe new life into the once sprawling city by embarking on a massive infrastructure overhaul of Sapele Township Roads.

The Governor has started some legacy projects in Sapele like Major Bowen Road from Okpe Road to new Ogorode Road. The administration is also embarking on the construction of Benin Road from Green Egbedi Road. Others are construction of Uko Road from Benin Road to Ugberikoko Road, Construction of Obule School Road from Orodje Grammar School to Okirigbagha Road by the Okirigwe Police Station.

The Delta State Government is also working on the Sapele-Warri Road from Amukpe Junction to Ikwewu community with a spur to Austin Ayemidejor close and the overlay of Okrigwe-Benin Road from Sapele-Warri road to Gammon bridge.

The Oborevwori administration believes that when these roads are finally completed/rehabilitated it would reopen Sapele to better commercial traffic and substantially restore the glory of the old city.

KWALE-BENEKU BRIDGE

The Oborevwori administration is investing heavily into the multi Billion naira Kwale-Beneku bridge linking Ndokwa West to Ndokwa East. The project is going on with accelerated speed.

As one of the projects inherited from the Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa's administration, Governor Oborevwori has brought it to 99% completion. For many years oil companies operating in this area have been using Pontoon to cross the river, with its attendant hazards.

Governor Oborevwori believes that as an oil and gas producing area they deserve a better deal hence he decided to complete the bridge and get it commissioned.

WARRI/EFFURUN FLYOVER BRIDGES

The Oborevwori administration came on board with a strong resolve to change the narrative about Warri. To this end, the administration signed a N78 Billion contract with Julius Berger, a construction giant, to construct three bridges, cloverleaf and road expansion projects in Warri/Effurun metropolis to ease the towns of their respective traffic gridlocks and reopen them to improved commercial activity.

A visit to Warri/Effurun metropolis will reveal infrastructural transformation going on in that axis. Not done, the Oborevwori  administration is also constructing and reconstructing new roads in the Warri/Effurun axis.

COLLEGE OF HEALTH TECHNOLOGY, OVRODE, ISOKO NORTH LGA.

One of the iconic legacy projects of the Oborevwori administration is the establishment of the College of Health Technology at Ovrode, Isoko North Local Government Area. The school of Health Technology at Ofuoma, Ughelli North had already overstretched its capacity and was unable to absorb majority of students seeking admission into the institution. To such students, the establishment of a second College of Health Technology was a lot of succour.

ESTABLISHMENT OF A COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES AT SOUTHERN DELTA UNIVERSITY, OZORO.

The establishment of a College of Health Sciences at the Southern Delta University, Ozoro (formerly University of Science and Technology, Ozoro) is another legacy project that would provide a platform for the training of doctors in the institution. Earlier, Governor Oborevwori had attracted the school of Nursing Sciences to the institution amidst other medical courses like Laboratory Technology.

PHASES 1 AND 2 OF EMEVOR-OROGUN ROAD.

The construction of the phases 1( already commissioned) and  just awarded  phase 2 of the Emevor-Orogun is to boost trade, access to medicare and education for people of Emevor and Orogun. It is a commercial road that is dear to both communities.

ONGOING CONSTRUCTION OF AYAKOROMO BRIDGE

The Ayakoromo bridge spanning 612 meters across the Forcados River  which was initiated in 2012 but has suffered several delays, has been given a fresh impetus  by the Oborevwori administration. The Project is a strategic infrastructural development in Burutu LGA of Delta State. Governor Oborevwori has pledged to complete this important bridge for the overall development of the area.

NEW HIGH COURT COMPLEX (COMPLETED AND COMMISSIONED).

The five storey High Court complex, Asaba became a dream come true when former President, Goodluck Jonathan came in June, 2024 to commission the project. In commissioning the High Court complex Goodluck Jonathan said:

"I believe that if you go across the country today, it is one of the best Judicial headquarters in the country and I congratulate the Governor and the Judiciary of Delta State for this exemplary project".

ORERE-EWU BRIDGE, EWU.

The ongoing construction of Orere bridge in Ughelli South Local Government Area signifies Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's opportunities for all Deltans as enshrined in his M.O.R.E agenda.

TRANS-WARRI ODE-ITSEKIRI BRIDGES AND ROADS.

The Trans Warri/Ode Itsekiri road is a 20.95 kilometre road which was awarded to SETRACO Construction Company in April, 2006 by the James Ibori Administration but commenced work in November 2007 during the administration of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan.

The project is very dear to Governor Oborevwori and he has personally visited the project in the company of the Olu of Warri, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III in the first week of September, 2024.

The Trans-Warri Ode-Itsekiri Road has 19 bridges covering roads, spurs, culverts, drains, two jetties and Ode-Itsekiri internal roads. Governor Oborevwori is committed to its speedy completion.

N2 BILLION INFRASTRUCTURAL PROJECTS IN EACH OF THE 25 LGA IN THE 2025 BUDGET.

As part of his efforts to ensure that his legacy projects are spread all over Delta State, Governor Oborevwori ensured that each of the 25 Local Government Areas of the state gets N2 Billion infrastructure projects in the 2025 state budget in addition to the N50 billion set aside for road construction in the 2025 budget.

THE IBUSA/OKPANAM BYPASS

The 5.3 kilometer Ibusa-Okpanam bypass connects Ibusa to Okpanam and the Asaba-Benin Expressway without necessarily going through the busy Koka junction.

The project, commissioned by the Osun state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke is an important road for its commercial value.

CONSTRUCTION OF ROADS IN IKA NORTH EAST/IKA SOUTH.

The Oborevwori administration is constructing a general hospital at Ute-Okpu while also embarking on the construction of NDDC Road Boji-Boji Owa, Ika North East LGA. The construction of Frank Monye Street with a spur to Lawrence Eziokwu Street, Boji-Boji  Owa, are also ongoing.

FACULTY BUILDING AND LECTURE HALLS AT THE NIGERIAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY OKERENKOKO.

The Oborevwori administration has  constructed  and donated a faculty building and lecture halls to the Maritime University Okerenkoko as part of government 's contribution to the development of the school. The Delta State government is also constructing a road to the permanent site of the University. Although the University is owned by the Federal Government, the Oborevwori administration has always canvassed a synergy between the Federal Government and the State Government. Also under constructed and commissioned is the Model Secondary School at Ogulaha in Burutu LGA of Delta state.

DELTA FRESH VISION is unable to capture all the legacy projects which the Oborevwori administration has completed or are ongoing. One notable feature of the projects is that they are very fairly spread across the state in a way to give all the ethnic nationalities and senatorial districts in the state a sense of belonging.
