THE FEAR OF MALTA - By Pius Mordi

Image
In the heat of the allegation by Aliko Dangote that international oil companies and NNPCL were denying his refinery access to Nigerian crude oil to buy, some commentators wondered why Dangote did not do his homework and secure guaranteed regular supply of crude oil from NNPCL and the IOCs before investing almost $20 billion into building what is reputed as the biggest refinery in the world.  Its an unusual assumption to make for a project the Nigerian government had repeatedly touted as the final solution to the spectre of importation of refined products that orchestrated the bleeding of the economy through a nebulous oil subsidy regime. Apart from banking on it, the federal government had also invested public funds into the project. Initially put at 20 percent of the stakeholding, Godwin Emefiele, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had claimed on May 22, 2023 when then President Muhammadu Buhari initially commissioned the refinery before its comple...

Image
DELTA UNITY NETWORK, a pro-Democracy movement has taken a swipe at the state chapter of the All Progressives congress,APC for alleged plot to instigate violent protests in parts of the state, beginning from August 1st,2024. In a statement issued by the chairman/ Convener, Delta Unity Network, Dr.Kingsley  Etaghene and Secretary, Hon. Douglas Nwanne,  the body said it has uncovered devious plans by the leadership of Delta APC to  cause chaos and anarchy, using hired street urchins to protest, in the guise of economic hardship. The  group wondered why the state APC  had surreptitiously turned itself to agent of destabilization, working at cross purposes with the national leadership of the party and President Bola Tinubu who had since, warned against such protest in any part of the country. DISCORDANT TUNES AS ANIOMA STATE BECKONS - By Patrick Omagbemi

Image
The filibustering around the noble cause of Anioma State creation as proposed by distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko is captivating just as it is tantalizing and remarkable. I admire and cherish the prospects for creating a state, as being championed by its proponents, that is capable of self sustainability. Although the Bill has scaled first reading in the Nigeria Senate, it is therefore wondering that those against it are within the Anioma circle. This lack of consensus can hinder a justifiable, unified push for this justifiable state creation. Firstly, it is important to outline majorly the benefits that awaits Anioma State. They include: * It is also important to state that the potential benefits is not only limited to the good people of Anioma Kingdom, but Southern Nigeria. It will promote more economic development and political representation for the region - such that ensures that any percieved feeling of marginalisation in the region can be addressed through statehood. * Incre...

DANGOTE'S NEW LEVEL BATTLE - By Pius Mordi

Image
For a man touted to enjoy serial support and concessions from whatever government in power for his business ventures, the statement credited to Farouk Ahmed, chief executive of Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), who made his unprompted verdict on the multi-billion dollars Dangote Refineries, astounded Nigerians by the brutal words used to describe the company's products.  The refined products of Dangote Refineries, Ahmed said, are substandard and do not compare with the quality of imported ones. Against the backdrop of concerns that international oil companies and the NNPCL were seemingly trying to scuttle the  refinery’s readiness to begin production and end the nightmare associated with importation of refined products into Nigeria, Ahmed claimed the refinery was only 45 percent completed. To boot, he claimed the refinery is yet to be licensed, although he failed to classify the nature of license yet to be secured. What stood out...

By Admin on  July 22, 2024 One striking attribute of Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs is the excitement he derives whenever he is around the elderlies, and always celebrate them at any given opportunity.
