Sen. Nwaoboshi, Speaker Guwor, Hon Esenwa, CPS Ahon, Others Receive Awards Of Excellence At ACNPN Annual Publishers Week Ceremony, 2025
No fewer than 30 Distinguished personalities across Delta State and beyond, received Awards of Excellence in service to humanity during the 2025 ACNPN Publishers Week Lecture/Awards ceremony held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the magnificent Obi Nwokocha Okeze Foundation event center, Igbuzor in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
This year’s lecture which has the theme “Empowering the people; Community Newspapers, Mental health Awareness; Access to Basic Healthcare and health in unity: The role of Cooperative Societies in promoting Community healthcare and mental wellness”, started with Free Medical Outreach where inhabitants of Igbuzor and environs turned out in large numbers to ascertain their health status through testing for High Blood Pressure and Sugar levels by two prominent medical teams from CIDO Asthma Foundation and The Light Diabetes Organization from the United Kingdom.
The Resource Persons in the separate lectures, Dr. Ugoji Ndubueze Okechukwu spoke extensively on Mental Healthcare Awareness and Wellness while Princess Mrs. Tonia Akindele Founder – The Light Diabetes Organization United kingdom spoke on the dangers of rising cases of Diabetes and Management. Pastor Idowu Okeze of Federal Cooperative College Oji River Enugu State, who was ably represented at the event spoke on the role of Cooperative Societies in promoting Community healthcare and mental wellness.
In his opening remarks, the chairman Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN), Comrade Ike Abiagom, said that the Association focused on mental health at the grassroots and it’s Link with cooperative societies because of the growing need to address the silent pressures faced by community members especially in rural and semi urban areas.
According to the Comrade Ike Abiagom, “Our Publishers being closest to the people, understand how economic hardship unemployment family stress and social isolation contributes to mental health challenges. Cooperative Societies on the other hand, remain one of the most powerful structures for support empowerment and shared resilience.
He further said that by educating the grassroots, we help break the stigma surrounding mental health while promoting cooperatives as platforms for healing productivity and financial stability.
He used the opportunity to appeal to the newly installed patrons and distinguished Awardees for support for the establishment of a befitting Publishers Secretariat – one that will serve as a hub for training, innovation and collaboration among community Publishers.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of awards to deserving personalities including; Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, Hon Barr Frank Esenwa member Delta State House of Assembly representing Oshimili North Constituency, Chief Barr Francis Obigbo, Onwaa Paul Okobi, Chief Sir Festus Ahon, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Delta State and Chief Peter Aromanoh.
Award recipients also included, Onowu Nze Felix Nwanze, Mr. Sunday Chukwuka Enewuzo President Sunday Enewuzo Foundation and President General Ebendo community development union, Prince Dr. Chukwuma Igekeyan, DPOs of Ibusa and Umunede Police Stations Ambassador Lucky Enegbelehein of the Edo State Waste Management Board and Dr. Joshua Muwem, Ibusa Community Policing Commander, amongst a distinguished list of awardees
