WAITING FOR GODOT - AN ALLUSION TO OMO-AGEGE'S ASPIRATION TO OCCUPY GOVERNMENT HOUSE - By Delta Fresh Vision

WAITING FOR GODOT - AN ALLUSION TO OMO-AGEGE'S ASPIRATION TO OCCUPY GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

Samuel Beckett's book "Waiting for Godot "vividly illustrates the fictional characters - Vladimir and Estragón - who wait endlessly for Godot who never arrives, so is Omo-Agege's political journey, especially his ambition to become Governor of Delta State - a journey that can be interpreted as a real -time parallel of the same futile waiting and expectation.

It's becoming obvious by the day that Omo-Agege's dream of occupying Government house Asaba remains unfulfilled, despite anticipation, planning and public posture. He is stuck in the web of his own absurdities.

Omo Agege has had a meteoric rise to one of the highest political offices in Nigeria - The Deputy Senate President. There is a conspiracy theory that his political career is characterized by treachery, backstabbing and ingrained ingratitude. He has traversed so many political parties to get to where he is and in any Political Party he courts, he throws down the ladder once he climbs to the top and prevents those who helped him to climb from ventilating their own ambitions.

Omo Agege cut his teeth in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where he rose to become the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). Ambition drove him to the ACN in 2011 and later RPN where he seized the Party from an innocent governorship candidate, Nkem Madezia to contest governorship elections. From there he returned to the PDP in 2015 briefly to contest the governorship primaries and when he lost he swiftly switched to the LABOUR PARTY (LP), making him the only LP Senator elected under it's platform in Delta State for that term.

It was in the Labour Party that he was to turn his back on his destiny helpers - Great Ogboru and O'tega Emerhor after he had his way. On March 7, 2017 Omo-Agege defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and in 2019 got re-elected as Senator and subsequently became a Deputy Senate President, allegedly as a reward for stealing a mace (the symbol of the Senate's authority) to avert the alleged impeachment of the late former President, Mohammadu Buhari.

For stealing the mace, he was suspended for 90 days by the Senate after it accused him of bringing the Senate to court - an act seen as indiscipline.
Omo-Agege has been involved in several treacherous acts and anti-party activities.
The Delta APC once accused him of inducing the former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele to run in the 2023 APC Presidential Primary to undermine President Tinubu's candidacy.
It is also alleged that in the 2023 Presidential election, Omo-Agege secretly aligned with the Labour Party's Presidential candidate, Peter Obi and delayed disbursement of campaign funds during the presidential election. The story is also rife that during the APC Presidential Primaries that threw up Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Omo-Agege threw his weight behind his boss, the former Senate President, Ahmed Lawal - a move that is reportedly still making him a pariah in Aso Rock presidential circles.

Omo-Agege was the Principal reason for the factions in the APC due to his undemocratic credentials until Governor Oborevwori moved to the party to unite it in 2025.

Since the movement of Sheriff Oborevwori and major stakeholders from the PDP to the APC - an action that automatically made Oborevwori the leader of the Party, Omo-Agege has drifted into the sea and began a one man show of resistance to constituted authority. He boycotts major APC events in the State and gives an erroneous impression of a schism in the APC while there is none. Omo-Agege has only one thing on his mind - to become Governor of Delta state by any means fair or foul. The recent one million march organized by his rag tag supporters, where they issued out threats to anybody against the Governorship aspirations of Omo Agege smacks of desperation and subterfuge.

It is now clear that Omo-Agege's complex mix of ambition, influence and conflict makes him one of Nigeria's most intriguing and polarizing political figures. His attempt to undermine party unity ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Delta State has weakened his support base with his most ardent supporters already deserting him.

Omo Agege may have rejected the honest advice from his friend, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi not to attempt to run against Sheriff Oborevwori, whose achievements make him the most qualified, profound and highly rated leader in the Delta APC, but we do perfectly understand that those the gods want to kill they first make mad.

It is foolish to educate (or advise) someone who is satisfied with his state of (Political) ignorance and so let us allow Omo-Agege to wallow in his day dream of occupying government house Asaba just as Vladimir and Estragon's illusory belief in "Waiting for Godot" that Godot will still one day come to satiate their patience.
