PDP Sacks Anyanwu, Approves Convention Plans, Appoints Koshoedo as Acting National Secretary; Approves Caretaker Committee For Delta
Following extensive deliberations, the NWC endorsed the Governors’ Forum’s resolution to hold the Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on May 27, 2025, and to convene an early National Convention on August 28-30, 2025, in Kano.
The NWC also ratified the establishment of the Zoning Committee, chaired by H.E. Gov. Douye Diri, and the National Convention Committee, chaired by H.E. Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, to address zoning of party offices and ensure a smooth convention process.
In line with the Governors’ Forum’s recommendation and the Supreme Court judgment on the National Secretary position, the NWC has sacked Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, and appointed Hon. Setonji Koshoedo, the Deputy National Secretary, as the Acting National Secretary, pending the nomination and ratification of a substantive National Secretary from the South East Zone at the next NEC meeting.
The NWC also approved the establishment of a caretaker committee to manage the party’s affairs in Delta State, following the defection of key members, including Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This measure underscores the PDP’s commitment to maintaining its structures and mobilizing members nationwide.
The PDP remains resolute in its role as Nigeria’s leading opposition party and will continue to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to address internal challenges, promote unity, and provide a credible alternative to Nigerians.
The NWC calls on all members to remain steadfast and support these decisions as the party prepares for the upcoming NEC meeting and National Convention.
PDP observers had, earlier today, read a viral report that the anticipated National Working Committee (NWC) meeting was facing certain disruption, with reports indicating that former Rivers State Governor and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, in collaboration with his known all Senator Samuel Anyanwu, were actively working to prevent the meeting from taking place.
Inside Sources within the party’s Wadata plaza National Secretariat hinted that both men were engaged in efforts to halt the NWC meeting.
Senator Anyanwu, who was recently removed as the PDP National Secretary, is reportedly defying his ouster and fighting to attend the meeting, intensifying the internal power struggle
