Students Of Maris Secondary School Attend University Of Abuja Organized Leadership Clinic

Students of Maris Secondary School, Amachai, Okpanam, in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State on Thursday, participated in a one-day Leadership Clinic organized by the Abuja Leadership Center in conjunction with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Center of Excellence and Leadership, University of Abuja. The training programme which was attended by students from twenty secondary schools drawn from public and private schools within the Delta State Capital Territory, saw ten students of Maris Secondary School, Amachai, Okpanam, participating. OTIONO FAMILY MOURNS MATRIARCH, EZINNE BENEDICTA - by Emeka Esogbue

The Otiono family has   announced the passing of Ezinne Benedicta Uzorchikwai Otiono. The death occurred on Wednesday November 27, 2024.  Ezinne Benedicta Otiono, mother of renowned writer and scholar, Prof Nduka Otiono of Carleton University, Canada, will be missed by the family and friends.  In a brief statement announcing her demise, Prof Otiono wrote, "...and Ezinne our mum passed on Tuesday night. She was an incredible mum, a teacher of teachers, an exemplary Christian, and a revered community builder." "May her soul rest in peace. Amen," the Canadian-based teacher of African Studies concluded.  Aged 91, Ezinne Benedicta Otiono hails from Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State.  The family will announce her funeral arrangements.   May her soul rest in peace.

EFCC's Invitation Stimulates Okowa's Political Consciousness

The immediate past governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Tuesday, said the recent invitation to him by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has rather than weaken him, stimulated his political consciousness.  He disclosed this while playing host to kinsmen and members of Owa-Alero Development Union, who paid him a solidarity visit at his residence in Asaba.  The former governor thanked his people for the visit and said that there was no cause for alarm about the EFCC invitation by the EFCC. DELTA ASSEMBLY PASSES N979.2BN BUDGET FOR 2025 FINANCIAL YEAR

Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed the State Appropriation Bill, aka Delta State Budget, for the services of the state for 2025 financial year. The passed budget christened “Budget of Fiscal Consolidation”, saw an increase of the total amount from 936.1billion naira presented to House last week for legislative actions by the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori to 979.2 billion naira. The breakdown of the amount showed the recurrent expenditure estimate amended from 348.717 billion naira to 348.767 billion naira, while capital expenditure was moved to 630.461 billion naira from 587.361 billion naira. The amendment, according to the Chairman, Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, represents an increase of 50 million naira which is 0.014% over the proposed recurrent expenditure and an increase of 43.1 billion naira which is 7.34% over the original proposed capital expenditure budget estimate sent to the House by Governor Oborevwor...

2025 BUDGET: Oborevwori Vows More Devt For Deltans; Says Nwoko Never Discussed Okpai IPP With Him

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Thursday, assured Deltans of enhanced development in the coming fiscal year 2025 with the budgetary provision of N50 billion for road infrastructure in the 25 Local Government Areas of the state.  Governor Oborevwori also disclosed that another N200 billion has been reserved for road construction as provided for in the 2025 budget already passed by the State House of Assembly.  The Governor made the pledge when he received on a courtesy visit, the leadership of Ndokwa Neku Union, led by its President-General, Brig. STATEMENT ON THE RECENT BOAT MISHAP AT WARRI RIVER THAT INVOLVED THE SPEAKER OF THE DELTA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, is deeply saddened by the tragic boat mishap that occurred over the weekend along Bennett Island River in Warri South-west local government area of Delta State, in which he was involved but miraculously survived.  Unfortunately, five precious lives were lost in the incident. Mr Speaker was returning to Asaba, enroute Warri after engagement with constituents on the faithful Friday afternoon, November 22, 2024, when the boat he was being ferried almost had a head-on collision with another, resulting to the death of five persons and several others injured. Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called for restructuring of the country. He also, called for the devolution of powers to the states, to the extent that more responsibilities be given to them while the Federal Government is vested with the responsibility of overseeing foreign policy, defence and economy. Governor Oborevwori made the call on Tuesday at a Colloquium to mark 20 years of operation by the Wellmann Group held in Warri, Delta State. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has appointed Rt Hon. Ochor Christopher Ochor as the new Chairman of the state’s Tourism Board. The announcement was contained in a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu. It could be recalled that Rt. The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagun, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organise a bye-election to fill the seats of 27 Rivers State lawmakers who defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Damagun’s request was formalised in a letter to INEC dated 13th November, 2024.
