Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, (l) and Senator Adedayo Adeleye, Chairman of the Board of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), when he led a delegation on a visit to the Delta state Governor, in Govt. House, Asaba recently. When Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, received Senator Adedayo Adeleye, chairman of the board of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) who led a delegation including the managing director, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, to Asaba, he broached a subject that has festered like a sore thumb. Just why have the seaports outside Lagos been operating well below their capacity? The inadequate explanations proffered over the years have fueled conspiracy theories about a seemingly orchestrated scheme to make eastern and central ports uncompetitive with those in Lagos. This is untrue. There is no such scheme and can never be.  At the end of the Nigerian Civil War in January 1970, the Federal Military Government unveiled a five-year National Developmen...

NO RIFT AMONG DELTA COMMISSIONERS, GOVT FOCUSED ON PROJECTS — Aniagwu

Reflections: WHAT DID WE DO WITH OUR SPORTS?

Image
Perhaps, one of the earliest recorded history of Nigerian sports was told by Chinua Achebe in his "Things Fall Apart." It was about Amalinze "The Cat," who earned popularity as undefeated wrestling champion across the communities stretching from Umuofia to Mbaino. He was later defeated by Okonkwo whose reputation also soared across the land. In modern times, sporting prowess have been converted to assets which attract financial benefits to both the athlete and their communities through brand sponsorships, endorsements and other ...
